The Art Of Packaging
"The package is the silent salesman and that's a great challenge."
It will come as no surprise to anyone who reads this blog regularly that my thoughts have turned to packaging of late. In the past, I have alluded to the fact that wrapping is not one of my greatest strengths so I am starting to get nervous about the prospect of coming face to face with a pristine square of tissue paper.
We all get a little thrill when we receive packages in the post - even though we often order them for ourselves. The emotions that carefully folded paper, ribbon and a handwritten note can elicit from the recipient are priceless and a huge part of the mail order experience.
Cue gratuitous typography shots.

As is evident above, (and in my experience as a consumer) less is more. Imagination, a little care and creative forethought is all that is needed. I feel. It wouldn't hurt to get a little insight from a discerning test group either - if I may - so please, do tell. What is your packaging preference and why? Sleek modernity, handmade charm or a dash of both?
P.S. As it is my birthday on Thursday, I shall be treating myself to a day off but it will be business as usual on Monday. I miss you already!

Happy early birthday! I'm a sucker for great packaging. I buy wine based on a well designed label and don't ask about the wine. I know, that's not a good idea! I usually go for clean and modern designs but I also like anything that looks unique.
Hello Tina and thank you!
I've actually bought things solely to get at the nice packaging even though I didn't want or need the contents - silly but true. :)
Oh man, I'm such a sucker for nice packaging, it's a weakness. It makes the entire experience that much more special so you can really savor it. love all the examples you chose. Isn't good typography the best?? Happy almost-birthday to you, darling! xo
Thanks, duckie! :) x
Best of all, if the packaging is sturdy as well as beautiful it can be repurposed - the perfect gift that keeps on giving! :D
Chi! Happy, happy birthday for Thursday sweetie. I hope you get thoroughly spoilt! I love packaging and graphics-which I almost studied-rather hilarious considering my computer skills!! It's not unknown for me to purchase various obscure food-stuffs purely for the packaging! Cx
First and foremost, happy early birthday to you! Happy to hear you're taking the day off to celebrate your special day. They only come once a year (thank goodness), so I hope you'll do something nice for yourself.
Ok, packaging. I am a huge fan of great packaging. I like graphic with a bit of whimsy. I appreciate when the company adds something a little unexpected. I like when all the elements are tied together and branded. Wouldn't you know that all the samples you picked above have these elements. I like. :)
Hello lovely Chi! Ah happy birthday for thursday :)
I like the last packaging the most. It reminds me of Erin's blog header!
Susan from anomadicabode.com sent me a book wraped in present with a huge A in black and white washi tape. it was so cute!
My favourtie packaging by far is Ortigia. I could just gaze at the shelves in that shop all day long. *love*
Happiest of birthdays, dear! Wishing you a day and a year filled with much joy and delight for you. xoxoxo
happy birthday chi-berry!
Happy belated birthday!
I detest gift bags, but love everything else. If someone has put effort into it, I am thrilled. It adds so very much to the experience. Store bought, or a gift!
