iPad Drawing #1
I have started drawing for pleasure again but using media that I never have before. Last week I treated myself to the Brushes app and a stylus for my iPad. The opportunity to draw whenever and wherever I choose without carting a moleskine and a pencil case full of pens and pencils was too good to pass up. Working in this way uses a completely different group of artistic muscles so, in some ways, it feels as though I'm learning anew. Here is one I made earlier.

Brushes comes with the added bonus of a time lapse video that shows the evolution of the end result, warts and all. I always found the creative process of others fascinating but this is the first time that I have captured my own. Sadly, I was unable to export the clip from my iPad to my PC but as soon as I work something out, I shall upload it here for you all to see.
There will always be a place in my heart for the traditional, the tried and the true but I think, for now, Brushes and I are going to have some fun.

Chi, that illustration is so cute. I love it. Hm, a stylus and a brush app...Must look into those. I'm with you, I favor tried and true tools. But, it's nice to step out of your comfort zone and try new applications. You never know what magic might happen. Gosh, I bet it felt really good to draw for pleasure; Like being a kid.
Thanks, T! There are other drawing apps for iPad but I'd heard Brushes came very highly recommended.
It did feel good - better than good.
I've done a few more drawings since this one and I think I'm hooked! :D x
That's adorable! Looks like you had a lot of fun doing it, too. The time-lapse video should be interesting... looking forward to seeing one on here soon :)
We were just talking about this for the kids last night Chi! It's just amazing what you can do these days!! And what the kiddies will take for granted! Have a lovely weekend- where did the week go?! X
Brilliant! I love your illustration, especially the grrr :) can't wait to see the time-lapse video.
Think I will have to treat myself.
I love that drawing! And the video idea...brilliant! I think anything that inspires you to be creative is a good thing, even if it takes you away from the things you normally love. The stylus won't replace your beloved pens and pencils, just become an extension of your toolbox. Can't wait to see what else you create with your new tools, dear!
@Deepa: Thanks, honey - I'm working on it as we "speak"! :D
@Caroline: Your kids would love it, I'm sure but be warned - it's VERY addictive!
Haha! I love the whooshing sound the week makes as it rushes past - enjoy the weekend! :D x
@Kelly: Haha! Thanks, Kelly - it did cry out for a sound effect of some sort. ;)
Thanks for stopping by! :D
@Lauren: Thanks, darling! I'm hoping to get better with practice. :) x
Well if that isn't the most adorable thing of all time. Look at her little paws! I love the detail on each of her strands of hair. Her little rosy cheeks and pursed lips are just darling. What a cool app! Now you're making me want an iPad but I have to remind myself that it doesn't come with natural artistic talent in the box. :D xoxo
That looks like so much fun and you are good! Loving the paws! x
@Erin: And there I was worrying that no-one could see the details I "slaved" over! ;)
I might have known Lisbeth would find a way!
Thank you SO much for your help today - you're the best!!! :D xoxo
@Toni: Thanks, hin - glad you like it! :) x
I'm so pleased you got the stylus and are reporting that you love it. The email of it's arrival is still in my inbox for me to action.
Like you, the idea of drawing on computers has never been that appealing. When at The David Hockney, the whole room of his iPad drawings was by far my least favourite but I was in awe of what's possible.
That drawing is gorgeous, simple and yet full of personality. Treat us to some more!
Happy weekend x
I know you sketch, too so I was keen to know your thoughts on this. It's not as soulful as putting pen/pencil to paper but I do like the convenience of it.
It takes some getting used to but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. There's another stylus that simulates brush strokes so I think I'll give that a go next.

With a compliment like that, how could I not? Thank you, darling! :D
Happy weekend to you, too! x
