Fashion|Conscious: Bag Lady

I have recently decided to get myself a bag large and streamlined enough to hold an iPad and other accroutrements of my life. Too large, however, and I run the risk of filling it with unnecessary what-if items.

I much prefer my bag to be strictly mine and to have a changing bag for my daughter's necessities.  That way, I can spare myself the potential embarrassment of reaching for a business card and having a cat with a bell in its belly (or worse!) fall out. I found a few that fit the bill and narrowed it down to these.

The first seems infinitely strokeable and the second is vaguely reminiscent of a little backpack I had at university. It was also plastic but completely transparent with silver leather trim.  All the better to show off my carefully chosen wallet, key ring and make-up bag, I felt. My friends and complete strangers, on the other hand,  thought I was utterly mad.

I am well aware that they are chalk and cheese but therein lies my dilemma. Do I go for grown-up elegance or playful, schoolgirlish charm?

Can you guess in which direction I am leaning?

What do you look for in a bag?

Oh, no brainer! Grown-up elegance all the way! Plus, if you get sleepy, you can lie down on it! Both look great fun!

Aside from the right man, I'm convinced a woman's hunt for the perfect bag is the most difficult task she faces. Being the snooze that I am, I'd totally go for the all black number up top, but you're a true embracer of pattern and joie de vivre, so you could pull of the patterned one without a hitch. I am always on the lookout for a new bag, even though I swear every time I buy one that that will be the last one. Though I haven't had eyes for anything other than my Marc Jacobs since I made the plunge, so that was money well spent!

Oh, Chi, why do you do this to us? How to choose? I love each bag equally for different reasons. The first one is beautiful and luxurious. I also like that it leans on the masculine side. The second bag is just fun, and probably more practical. (I use to carry a leather satchel in college, too!) If I had to pick, I guess I would go with the second one, but only because 'practical' always wins over 'luxurious' for me. It's just the way I'm built, darn it. Do keep us posted on which one you select.

I like the black one most but I think the satchel is more Chi-ish. It's really cute. Do you know that jelly bags are back in? I loved the one I had so much but then I lost my fountain pen because it fell through the hole :(
